Introduction

The Mícheál Ó Cléirigh Summer School
The Summer School is organised by a local committee from the Ballyshannon / Rossnowlagh area. The purpose of the School is to recognise and honour, in his local area, the work of Br. Mícheál Ó Cléirigh and his partners. Each year a different theme is explored based on the life experiences of the annalists.

The purpose of the school is to examine the life, works and times of Mícheál Ó Cléirigh.   In the 1620’s he led the team of scholars who transcribed texts from the ancient Irish manuscripts and collated them into a collection of books called Annála Ríoghachta Éireann or the Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland later known as the “Annals of the Four Masters”.   Modern day scholars from home and abroad gather to give a modern perspective on the events from 500 years ago.
